Gamestash

Install

Set up the desktop app or Steam Deck plugin to start syncing automatically.

Step 1 โ€” Create an API Key

Both the desktop app and the Decky plugin authenticate with an API key.

Go to API Keys, click + New Key, give it a name (e.g. "My PC" or "Steam Deck"), and copy the generated key. You'll paste it during setup below.

Step 2a โ€” Desktop App

A system tray app for Windows, macOS, and Linux that watches your Steam screenshot folders.

Download

๐ŸชŸ Windows

gamestash-windows.exe

๐ŸŽ macOS

gamestash-darwin-arm64 (Apple Silicon)
gamestash-darwin-amd64 (Intel)

๐Ÿง Linux

gamestash-linux-amd64

On macOS and Linux, make the file executable first: chmod +x gamestash-*

Set up

  1. Launch the app โ€” a Gamestash icon appears in your system tray / menu bar
  2. Click the icon to open the panel
  3. Paste your API key and click Save

That's it. The app finds your Steam screenshot folders automatically, uploads everything it discovers, and keeps watching for new screenshots. The panel shows found / uploaded / pending counts, your storage usage, and your current plan.

Steam installed in a non-standard location?

Open Advanced settings in the tray panel and choose your Steam installation folder โ€” the one that contains the userdata directory.

Step 2b โ€” Steam Deck (Decky Plugin)

Syncs screenshots automatically from your Steam Deck whenever you're online.

Prerequisites

You need Decky Loader installed on your Steam Deck. If you haven't set it up yet:

  1. On your Deck, open a browser and go to decky.xyz
  2. Download and run the installer in Desktop Mode
  3. Restart into Game Mode โ€” the Decky icon (๐Ÿ”Œ) appears in the Quick Access menu

Install the plugin

  1. Open the Quick Access menu (ยทยทยท) and tap the ๐Ÿ”Œ Decky icon
  2. Go to the Store tab and search for Gamestash
  3. Tap Install

Alternatively, install manually: download gamestash-decky.zip, switch your Deck to Desktop Mode, and unzip it into ~/homebrew/plugins/ (so the files end up in ~/homebrew/plugins/gamestash/), then restart Decky Loader or reboot the Deck.

Configure

  1. Open the Quick Access menu โ†’ ๐Ÿ”Œ Decky โ†’ Gamestash
  2. Paste your API key under Settings and tap Save settings
  3. Toggle Auto-sync screenshots on

How it works

The plugin monitors your screenshot folder in the background. Whenever you take a screenshot in any game, it queues the file and uploads it as soon as a network connection is available. No game needs to be running for the upload โ€” it happens whenever the Deck is online.

Step 3 โ€” Verify

Confirm everything is working.

  1. Take a screenshot in any Steam game (F12 on PC, R1+L1+R2+L2 on Steam Deck)
  2. Wait a few seconds for the upload
  3. Open your Gallery โ€” the screenshot should appear

If nothing appears after a minute, check that the app is running and the API key has not been revoked on the API Keys page.
